Driving Innovation: Titagarh Enters Shipbuilding and Safety Systems

Titagarh Rail Systems, India’s leading manufacturer of railway wagons and coaches, is expanding into new high-growth sectors, including indigenous Kavach train protection systems and shipbuilding. According to Deputy Managing Director Prithish Chowdhary, the company is actively exploring product development partnerships in its newly launched signalling and safety systems division, with a strong interest in contributing to the development of Kavach, India’s automatic train protection system.

In February, Titagarh formally announced its entry into two key verticals: shipbuilding and maritime systems, and signalling and safety systems. This diversification is aimed at leveraging its core strengths in engineering and manufacturing to tap into adjacent sectors.

Chowdhary emphasized the long-term importance of safety system innovations, despite the regulatory complexity and time involved in approvals. In parallel, the company is ramping up its shipbuilding efforts, assessing locations across West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Maharashtra for future expansion, guided by state-level industrial policies.

With a clear focus on forging global partnerships and integrating advanced technologies, Titagarh Rail Systems is positioning itself as a major player beyond railways, aiming to replicate its domestic success in emerging sectors like maritime and safety systems.
