Edappally-Moothakunnam Six-Laning Project Reaches 45% Completion

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced significant progress on the Edappally-Moothakunnam six-laning project, with 45 percent of the ₹1,618-crore initiative now complete. This ambitious project is part of the broader 164-km Edappally-Ramanattukara (Kozhikode) NH-66 section and is set to revolutionize travel along this vital corridor. The revised completion date for this 26.03-km stretch is June next year.

The project includes the construction of key infrastructure such as a railway overbridge at Edappally, four flyovers, and multiple bridges and underpasses to enhance traffic flow and safety. The six-lane highway will accommodate speeds up to 100 kmph, significantly cutting down travel time between Edappally and Moothakunnam from over an hour to just half an hour during peak hours.

In addition to the main carriageway, which will be flanked by two-lane service roads, NHAI plans to build two vehicle underpasses near the busy Edappally Junction to alleviate congestion. These underpasses will be strategically located near major landmarks like Oberon Mall and Lulu Mall.

The project aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic bottlenecks on NH-66, a crucial 1,611-km route stretching from Panvel in Maharashtra to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
