Elevating NH-48: A ₹913Cr Upgrade for the Pune–Bengaluru Corridor

A ₹913.7 crore infrastructure project has been approved for the construction of a six-lane elevated flyover on the Pune–Bengaluru National Highway near Kolhapur. The project aims to ease traffic congestion and prevent disruptions caused by flooding in the region.

The 3.578 km-long elevated corridor will be built over the Panchaganga River along the Kagal–Satara stretch of National Highway 48 in Maharashtra. The flyover is expected to ensure smoother and safer connectivity for commuters traveling to and from Kolhapur city. Announcing the approval, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari stated that the project would significantly improve traffic efficiency and road safety.

In addition to the elevated corridor, the project includes the development of a six-lane cement concrete service road, improvements at Gandhinagar Junction, and the construction of two underpasses to facilitate seamless movement of vehicles across the railway line. As NH-48 is a key route linking major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru, the project is considered crucial for strengthening long-term regional infrastructure.
