Export Express: Dahod's Locomotive Factory Powers Global Trade.

"The electric locomotive manufacturing unit in Dahod, Gujarat, is set to produce a substantial number of high-speed freight train engines within the next three years, supporting both domestic use and exports, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

During his visit to Gujarat, Vaishnaw inspected the first 9000-horsepower (HP) locomotive under production at the Dahod facility, which will soon be operational for Indian Railways.

Established with an investment of ₹20,000 crore, the facility's foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2022. It aims to enhance freight train speed and efficiency by manufacturing high-power locomotives under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for World’ initiatives.

Railway officials highlighted that these locomotives, developed in partnership with Siemens, will be capable of hauling 4,500-tonne cargo loads at speeds of up to 120 kmph. They will also incorporate advanced features such as digital tracking systems, Kavach safety technology, and eco-friendly propulsion systems."
