Gadkari Greenlights ₹6,000 Cr Pune-Kolhapur Road Mega-Project

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that a detailed project report (DPR) has been completed for the upgrade of the Pune–Kolhapur highway at an estimated cost of ₹6,000 crore, along with plans to strengthen the Pune–Satara corridor.

Responding to a query from Baramati MP Supriya Sule during the winter session, Gadkari stated that construction of two tunnels near Khambatki Ghat is underway, with one set for inauguration soon. Describing the route as vital for regional connectivity, he said the ministry is re-examining the project and funding the development of service lanes along the western bypass, while contracts for works between Satara and Kolhapur have already been awarded. A review meeting is scheduled next week to evaluate progress and incorporate suggestions from MPs.

Emphasising timely execution, the Minister said, “The government will begin implementing the DPR,” adding that the aim is to complete key surface improvements within a year to ease travel for commuters heading toward Bengaluru.
