Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, will visit Puducherry today to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several key infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and development.
The visit will begin with the inauguration of a ₹436 crore, 4-km elevated corridor connecting Indira Gandhi Square to Rajiv Gandhi Square. The Minister will also dedicate to the nation three major national highway projects totaling over ₹2,000 crore. Among them is the 38-km, four-lane Puducherry–Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, developed at a cost of ₹1,588 crore.
In addition, improvement works on a 14-km stretch of the East Coast Road, involving an investment of ₹25 crore, will be launched as part of the visit.
These projects reflect the central government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in the Union Territory and surrounding regions. Officials have noted that the developments will ease traffic congestion, improve mobility, and stimulate economic growth across the region.
