GAIL Inaugurates India’s First Green Hydrogen Plant

Tecnimont, in collaboration with NextChem, has successfully inaugurated India’s first green hydrogen production plant for GAIL India at Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh. Awarded in May 2022, this groundbreaking project is a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of low-carbon energy solutions. The plant's 10 MW-based electrolysers will produce 4.3 tons per day (tpd) of green hydrogen, positioning GAIL as the first company in India to commence megawatt-scale green hydrogen production.

The Vijaipur plant is a crucial step towards achieving India’s ambitious hydrogen mission, which aims to reach an annual green hydrogen production capacity of five million tonnes by 2030. This aligns with India's broader goals of energy independence by 2047 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Green hydrogen offers extensive applications, including renewable energy storage, industrial fuel replacement, clean transportation, and potential uses in aviation and marine transport.

NextChem will use the Vijaipur plant as a reference to explore further energy transition opportunities in India. This project enhances Maire’s strategic positioning in the country’s energy transition landscape, paving the way for the largest green hydrogen plant in India.

Maire Group's substantial presence in India, with over 3,000 employees, underscores its commitment to sustainable industrial solutions and strengthens its role in advancing the national industry towards a greener future.
