Ganga Expressway: Rs 36,230 Crore Mega-Project on Fast Track to Dec 2024 Completion

India's second-largest expressway, the Ganga Expressway, is on track for completion by December 2024. This monumental infrastructure project, with a budget of Rs 36,230 crore, will traverse 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh, covering a sprawling 7,453.15 hectares and passing through 518 settlements.

Designed as a six-lane highway, the expressway will eventually expand to eight lanes, with a width of 120 meters. It is planned to accommodate speeds of up to 120 mph. The project is divided into four construction phases, with different sections being built by leading infrastructure firms.

IRB Infrastructure is handling the 129.70 km Meerut-Badaun stretch, while Adani Infrastructure is responsible for the Badaun-Hardoi (151.70 km), Hardoi-Unnao (155.70 km), and Unnao-Prayagraj (156.85 km) segments. The expressway will feature 32 flyovers, seven rail overbridges, and 14 major bridges, including a 3.5-km airstrip in Shahjahanpur.

Stretching 594 km from Bijauli in Meerut to Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj, the Ganga Expressway will significantly enhance connectivity between eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. It will also play a crucial role in facilitating the Mahakumbh 2025, welcoming millions of devotees and tourists.
