Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, along with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and senior officials, inaugurated a 132/33 kV substation at Gannavaram Airport, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹30 crore. The project aims to strengthen the power infrastructure in Amaravati and Vijayawada and ensure reliable electricity supply in the region.
During the inauguration, the Minister announced that the state government has implemented the True-Down mechanism for the first time, leading to a reduction in electricity tariffs by 13 paise per unit. In a significant move to ease the financial burden on consumers, the government has also cleared electricity dues amounting to ₹4,498 crore on behalf of the public. He further highlighted key initiatives, including the reduction of power line losses from 16 percent to below 11 percent, the release of over 75,000 agricultural power connections, and the promotion of the Solar Rooftop Programme. Under this programme, subsidies are being provided to Backward Class beneficiaries, while free rooftop solar systems are being offered to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households.
Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand stated that the new substation will ensure uninterrupted 24×7 power supply to Gannavaram Airport, nearby mandals, and villages, while also reducing the load on the Ganguru Substation. He added that the government remains committed to minimising transmission losses and delivering reliable electricity across the state.
