GBL & ICT: Turning Greenhouse Gas into Green Energy

Godavari Biorefineries (GBL) has launched a pioneering pilot project to convert industrial CO₂ emissions into dimethyl ether (DME) — a clean, sustainable fuel and versatile chemical feedstock.

In collaboration with the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, this groundbreaking initiative tackles climate change by transforming greenhouse gases into a low-emission energy carrier. DME can serve as a substitute for LPG and diesel, supporting decarbonisation and reducing environmental impact. Beyond its role as a clean fuel, DME also serves as a valuable input for various industrial processes.

Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of GBL, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation and responsible resource use to protect the planet for future generations. This project marks a significant step toward global efforts in greenhouse gas reduction and the conversion of waste emissions into valuable energy solutions.
