Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (TANTRANSCO) has initiated the laying of underground extra high tension (EHT) transmission cables as part of an upgrade to the Mannarpuram substation in Trichy.
With a project cost of ₹26.71 crore, the initiative aims to strengthen power supply across high-demand areas including Cantonment, Central Bus Stand, and Senthanneerpuram. The upgrade will enhance the substation’s capacity from 33/11 kV to 110/11 kV, tripling its current load capacity to meet growing energy needs.
As part of the project, a 7-km EHT transmission line will be established, including 2.4 km of underground cables along busy highways between Mannarpuram and Edamalaipattipudur. For the first time in the region, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology will be employed to minimise traffic disruption during cable installation.
Additionally, 16 power towers will be constructed from Sathanur to Edamalaipattipudur to support the upgraded system. Once completed, the new infrastructure will significantly reduce power interruptions and enhance the reliability and stability of Trichy’s electricity supply.
