Tata Power plans to establish a 10 GW solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in India, CEO Praveer Sinha announced on November 11. The initiative aims to reduce India’s reliance on imported upstream solar components and strengthen the domestic solar supply chain.
While India currently boasts significant capacity in module (100 GW) and cell (27 GW) manufacturing, domestic production of ingots and wafers remains limited. Tata Power is evaluating potential locations for the plant based on state and central government incentives under new solar manufacturing schemes. The company is also exploring investment opportunities in hydro and nuclear energy projects.
