The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is progressing steadily on the construction of its fifth water treatment plant (WTP) unit at Chandu Budhera, with completion targeted for December 2025 and commissioning expected by January 2026.
The new unit will add 100 million litres per day (MLD) to the city’s water supply capacity, bringing GMDA’s total treatment capacity to 770 MLD—400 MLD at Chandu Budhera and 370 MLD at Basai. Currently, four 100 MLD units at Chandu Budhera serve key areas of the city.
The fourth unit, commissioned in April 2025, significantly improved water supply in localities such as Golf Course Road, MG Road, and Palam Vihar. However, several regions—including Sectors 58–80, Sohna, and Gwal Pahari—continue to face water shortages, relying on tubewells and private tankers.
Approximately 40% of the fifth unit’s construction is complete. While recent heavy rainfall caused some delays, officials confirmed that machinery is already in place and waterlogging issues are being addressed to resume work. GMDA is also fast-tracking the Sector 72 water boosting station to enhance distribution in underserved areas.
