Goa Sponge And Power Limited is coming up with a new Integrated Steel, Captive Power [FBC] or [WHRB], & Coal Plant Project at Santana, South Goa, Goa. Total Cost of the project 30 Crores.
The project is expected to have a production capacity of 250 TPD of sponge iron, 90,000 TPA of induction furnace steel (IFS), and 28-30 TPD of fly ash, capacity of 4 MW of captive power, which will be used to meet the electricity needs of the company's Integrated Steel Plant Project. The captive power plant will be fueled by natural gas, which is a clean and efficient source of energy. Capacity of 8 MW of captive power by harnessing the waste heat generated from its Integrated Steel Plant Project.
The WHRB technology will capture the residual heat from the production process and convert it into steam, which will then drive turbines to generate electricity. This approach promotes energy efficiency and reduces the overall environmental impact of the steelmaking process. The project aims to produce 40 TPD of coal, primarily for captive consumption within its Integrated Steel Plant Project.
The project will involve the construction of a state-of-the-art steel plant that will be equipped with modern machinery and technology for the production of sponge iron, induction furnace steel, and fly ash. The sponge iron will be produced using the coal-based direct reduction (CDR) process, which is an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient process. The induction furnace steel will be produced using scrap steel, which is a sustainable and cost-effective raw material.
The fly ash will be a byproduct of the coal-based CDR process and can be used in the production of cement and other construction materials. A captive power plant is a power plant that is built and operated by a company to meet its own electricity needs. Captive power plants are often more economical than purchasing electricity from the grid, and they can also provide a more reliable and stable supply of power.
As on November 2023, The project is now in the stage of receiving approvals. The project has received all necessary clearances. By the end of the year 2023, development on the project will have begun.
