Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (GCPL), a leading emerging markets FMCG company, has launched its first integrated greenfield manufacturing plant in Chengalpattu district, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin, alongside Nadir Godrej, Chairperson of Godrej Industries Group, and Sudhir Sitapati, MD & CEO of GCPL.
Marking a significant milestone, operations commenced with Thiru M.K. Stalin ceremonially activating the production line, leading to the first production run of the iconic Cinthol Original soap bar. GCPL plans to invest approximately ₹515 crore in the facility over the next five years, making it the company’s largest single investment to date for enhancing production capabilities. Spread across 27 acres, the plant was constructed in a record 13 months and is set to boost operational efficiency, foster local economic growth, and generate employment, with a particular focus on women’s empowerment.
Speaking at the inauguration, Thiru M.K. Stalin emphasized Tamil Nadu’s commitment to industrial growth, strategic investments, and job creation. He highlighted that Godrej’s decision to establish its facility in the state reinforces its role in driving innovation, creating job opportunities, and uplifting local communities.
This investment aligns with GCPL’s broader vision of strengthening its manufacturing footprint while contributing to sustainable and inclusive economic development.
