Green Light for Greenfield: Mohali’s New Lifeline Opens

After several months of delays, the long-awaited greenfield road project in Mohali was opened to the public on 22 December 2025, bringing much-needed relief to commuters using Airport Road and surrounding areas.

The project is designed to decongest Airport Road and provide an alternative route for Delhi-bound traffic heading towards Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier this year, the project missed its initial June and September completion targets. It faced further delays in December due to protests by landowners and farmers’ unions seeking the provision of an entry and exit road near the toll plaza. The issue was subsequently resolved after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) agreed to their demand.

Developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme, the 31-km greenfield corridor connects IT Chowk near Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport with the Kurali–Chandigarh Road. Officials stated that the project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and enhance regional connectivity.
