Southern Railway’s Construction Organisation will undertake a ₹289.17-crore track doubling project along the 21.5 km Aduthurai–Kumbakonam–Sundaraperumal Kovil broad gauge section in the Tiruchi Railway Division.
Sanctioned by the Railway Board, the project covers civil works, signalling and electrical installations on the electrified Thanjavur–Villupuram mainline. Scheduled for completion by December 2027, the doubling is aimed at improving rail capacity ahead of the upcoming Mahamaham festival and enabling additional passenger trains for devotees.
The project will also require land acquisition for new platforms and loop lines at Aduthurai and Sundaraperumal Kovil stations. The tendering process is expected to begin shortly to meet the project’s completion timeline.
