Green Light for Twin Tracks: Manmad-Kasara Land Acquisition Starts

The Indian Railways plans to acquire land from more than 45 villages across Nashik and Thane districts to build the third and fourth railway lines between Kasara and Manmad, spanning 140 km. The deputy collector will oversee the land acquisition process, which includes surveys, joint measurements, and valuation, following the Railways’ deposit of required funds.

Construction on connecting sections is already in progress: Kalyan–Kasara on the Mumbai side and Jalgaon–Manmad on the Bhusawal side. The Kasara–Manmad stretch remains the critical missing link, and adding two new tracks is expected to strengthen Mumbai-bound connectivity and increase freight efficiency to ports.

The acquisition covers four villages in Igatpuri taluka, 16 in Nashik, 17 in Niphad, seven in Chandwad, and one in Nandgaon. Currently, the existing line is overburdened, operating at 138% capacity with around 75 trains in each direction daily, leaving minimal time for maintenance. Once approved by the Railway Board and completed, the project will greatly enhance train operations in the region.
