Greening India's Ports: NTPC's Hydrogen Hub Arrives in Tuticorin

NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, to establish a green hydrogen fuelling station at the port.

As part of the initiative, hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine trucks will be deployed for port operations, with the long-term goal of replacing conventional fossil fuel vehicles with clean, sustainable alternatives. This aligns with NGEL’s broader strategy to advance green mobility and decarbonize port infrastructure, contributing to enhanced energy security and environmental sustainability.

NTPC has already undertaken several hydrogen-based initiatives, including a hydrogen blending project in Surat and mobility pilots in Leh, Greater Noida, Bhubaneswar, and Kandla Port. NGEL is also developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam, and aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, supported by energy storage technologies.
