Katihar Gets Green Light for ₹118 Crore Road Over Bridge

The Ministry of Railways has approved the construction of a new Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Katihar Junction in Bihar, aimed at easing severe traffic congestion at a key level crossing on National Highway-31 and State Highway-98. The project is estimated to cost around ₹118 crore.

Officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) confirmed that the ROB will be developed as a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and the state government.

“This long-awaited project will not only decongest traffic but also enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians,” said a senior railway official from the Katihar division.

The level crossing currently acts as a major bottleneck in the busy transport corridor, causing frequent delays and posing safety risks.

Project Timeline and Scope

Work is expected to commence soon, with the detailed project report (DPR) and tendering process already underway.

The ROB will replace the existing level crossing, allowing uninterrupted flow of vehicles and improving regional connectivity.

The project is part of the central government’s broader push to modernize transport infrastructure, enhance multimodal connectivity, and reduce travel time on key routes across the country.
