Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) has entered into a gas sales agreement with Waaree Energy to supply 50,000 standard cubic meters per day (scmd) of piped natural gas (PNG) for Waaree’s upcoming Lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Valsad, Gujarat.
Currently under construction, the plant is slated for commissioning in Q4 of FY26. This partnership is aligned with the broader goal of promoting sustainable energy use, lowering carbon emissions, and supporting India’s transition to cleaner energy. Given the country’s current dependence on imported Lithium-ion batteries, the facility represents a strategic step toward self-reliance in advanced energy storage technologies.
Lithium-ion batteries are essential for electric vehicles (EVs), portable electronics, and battery energy storage systems (BESS)—key enablers of grid stability and renewable energy integration. Waaree Energies, already India’s largest solar PV module manufacturer with a production capacity of 13.3 GW, is now expanding into Lithium-ion cell production, hydrogen fuel cells, and solar wafer manufacturing.
GGL, India’s largest City Gas Distribution (CGD) company, serves over 22.67 lakh households, 4,000+ industrial units, and operates 828+ CNG stations across 44 districts in six states and one union territory.
