Gurugram to Invest ₹366 Crore in Sewage Treatment Expansion

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will expand sewage treatment capacity at its Behrampur and Dhanwapur plants by 100 million litres per day (MLD) each, investing ₹366 crore to reduce untreated sewage discharge into the Yamuna River.

A new 100 MLD plant will be constructed at Behrampur for ₹200 crore on a 12-acre site, aimed at treating increasing sewage from Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension, and Subhash Chowk–HUDA City Centre. Tenders for this project will be floated within a week.

At Dhanwapur, the existing plant—currently overwhelmed by 250 MLD of sewage against a capacity of 168 MLD—will be expanded at a cost of ₹166 crore. This project has already gone to tender and is expected to be completed within two years.

To address untreated sewage from unconnected villages flowing into the Badshahpur drain and eventually into the Yamuna, GMDA is also developing smaller, localized STPs. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will redirect sewage from Manesar and Naharpur Kasan to GMDA’s 25 MLD STP in Sector-6. Treated water will be reused for green belts, construction, and parks.
