The Haryana government has been allocated 20 MWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity under the Centre’s Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme, with the project targeted for commissioning by July 2027.
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVNL) has been designated as the implementing agency, and the state will receive VGF support of ₹27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the capital cost, whichever is lower. The project will be shared equally between DHBVNL and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVNL), with each developing 10 MWh. The BESS installations will be deployed across four 33 kV substations—Jaglan, Khira, Siwani, and Bhiwani. This initiative is expected to enhance grid reliability by storing low-cost power during off-peak hours and releasing it during peak demand. It will also support renewable energy integration, particularly during periods when renewable output is low.
Additionally, Prostarm Info Systems is establishing a BESS manufacturing facility in Haryana, scheduled for completion by March 2026.
