Haryana is set to strengthen its industrial wastewater management infrastructure by adding eight new Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) with a total capacity of 146 million litres per day (MLD), scheduled for completion by December 2027.
This expansion complements the state’s existing 23 CETPs, which currently treat 214.6 MLD of effluents from 1,439 industries. With rapid industrialisation in clusters such as Faridabad, Gurugram, Sonipat, and Yamunanagar, the new facilities aim to reduce industrial pollution, protect water bodies, and enhance wastewater recycling—of which 129.5 MLD is already being reused.
The initiative aligns with national sustainability goals, promoting water conservation and cleaner industrial practices. Environmental experts have stressed the importance of transparency and innovation, recommending the creation of a digital dashboard for real-time CETP data to ensure regulatory compliance and public accountability.
Once implemented, this effort will not only mitigate health and environmental risks associated with untreated effluents but also position Haryana as a model for sustainable industrial development.
