The Himachal Pradesh government has completed the tendering process to develop two islands in Gobind Sagar Lake into upscale tourist destinations. The development rights have been awarded to the highest bidders, with the vision of transforming these islands into experiences akin to those in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The islands will feature boat access, eco-friendly camping, bonfire areas, nature trails, hiking paths, and designated fishing zones. Plans also include the development of infrastructure for hotels, restaurants, destination weddings, pre-wedding shoots, adventure sports, and picnic spots to enrich the overall visitor experience.
Water-based activities are already operational on the lake, such as cruise-style motorboats, shikaras, and various water sports. With additional zones for recreational fishing and angling, the lake aims to appeal to a broad range of tourists.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that the project aligns with the state government's larger strategy to boost eco-tourism. As part of this initiative, around 450 forest rest houses across Himachal Pradesh may be leveraged to further enhance the eco-tourism experience.
