Himadri Speciality Chemical, India’s largest speciality carbon black manufacturer, has commissioned the country’s first anode material production facility in West Bengal, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s lithium-ion battery ecosystem.
The Kolkata-based company inaugurated the plant at Mahistikry with an initial production capacity of 200 MTPA. The facility will manufacture anode material, a key component used in lithium-ion batteries.
Himadri plans to begin exports to international markets, including the United States and Europe, from the third quarter of the current fiscal year, aiming to tap into rising global demand for advanced battery materials.
Anurag Choudhary, CMD and CEO of Himadri Speciality Chemical, said the company has been developing this anode material technology for over 14 years, supported by significant investments and a strong focus on quality. He noted that Himadri is the first company in India to commercialise anode material production for lithium-ion batteries.
The development positions the company as a pioneer in India’s advanced battery materials space, strengthening its role in the global clean energy value chain.
