Hindustan Copper (HCL) is set to scale its ore production capacity from 4 MTPA to 12.2 MTPA by reviving dormant assets in Jharkhand and Sikkim. The public sector undertaking (PSU) expects to finalize three to four state-level MoUs within two months, backed by recent interventions from the Union Mines Minister and state Chief Ministers to secure rapid approvals. Production at the revived sites is anticipated within 8 to 10 months.
In Jharkhand, work is active at the Rakha and Kendadih mines, paired with deep expansion at Malanjkhand. In Sikkim, HCL is targeting the Dikchu, Rangpo-Bhotang, and Pachikhani deposits. This domestic supply surge aims to insulate India against rising global demand from clean energy transitions, grid infrastructure, and AI data centers.
