Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro: Test Run Complete

Pune’s Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line marked a significant milestone with its maiden trial run on 27 August, advancing the city’s urban transport ambitions.

The test, conducted between Maan Depot and Balewadi Stadium (Station No. 10), marked the first entry of a train into the main alignment of the 23 km corridor. Engineers and project officials carefully monitored track performance, signalling systems, and operational safety to ensure readiness for future phased tests. Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to be a "game changer" for traffic-congested Pune, connecting Hinjewadi’s IT hubs with Shivajinagar’s central business district.

The line will pass through residential and educational areas, offering a faster and more sustainable commute for professionals, students, and daily travelers. The Pune Metro Line III project is being developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The contract for the project was awarded to TRIL Urban Transport (Tata Group) and Siemens Project Ventures through a special purpose vehicle, Pune IT City Metro Rail (PITCMRL). Built on a DBFOT model, the project has a 35-year concession period, including the construction phase.
