HMEL Pumps ₹2,600 Crore into Punjab’s Industrial Future

HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) has announced an investment of ₹2,600 crore to expand operations at its Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Bathinda, Punjab. The expansion will focus on developing polypropylene downstream industries and fine chemical projects.

According to HMEL Managing Director and CEO Prabh Das, Punjab is emerging as a major hub for polypropylene manufacturing, currently supplying around 14% of India’s total demand. The Bathinda refinery, which produces fuels such as petrol and diesel, has already made a significant contribution to the state’s economy. The new investment is expected to generate employment and further boost industrial growth in the Bathinda region.

Punjab Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora also highlighted plans to develop a dedicated plastic industrial park near Ludhiana to strengthen the state’s plastic manufacturing ecosystem. In addition, HMEL plans to set up multi-fuel petrol pumps equipped with electric vehicle charging stations across Punjab.
