Hyderabad Metro Phase-II: DPRs Almost Done!

Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has announced that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Phase-II (Part B) of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project are nearing completion.

This phase includes three proposed corridors: Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal (24.5 km), JBS to Shamirpet (22 km), and Shamshabad to Future City (40 km). These DPRs will soon be reviewed by the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) Board before being submitted for approvals from the state and central governments.

Meanwhile, the state is awaiting the Centre’s approval for Phase-II (Part A), which involves five new corridors totaling 76.4 km at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. These new routes are planned as extensions of the existing Phase-I network. The projected daily ridership is expected to reach 7.96 lakh by 2028.

Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro, spanning 69 km across three high-density corridors, was developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model at a cost of ₹22,148 crore. It remains the world’s largest metro project built under a PPP framework and currently serves approximately five lakh commuters daily.
