Tata Electronics is set to double iPhone enclosure production at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu, marking the launch of Phase II development at the site. This expansion aligns with Apple’s broader strategy to shift manufacturing beyond China and is expected to be completed ahead of the company’s major product launches in September.
Previously operating at a 50,000-unit capacity, the Hosur plant experienced a temporary halt due to a fire in September last year. The ramp-up now reflects Apple’s push to diversify its supply chain in response to rising geopolitical and tariff risks.
Tata's role in Apple’s ecosystem is growing significantly. In early 2025, it acquired a 60% controlling stake in Pegatron Technology India, following its 2024 takeover of Wistron’s India operations in Karnataka. Meanwhile, other Apple suppliers are expanding across India: Foxconn is constructing a new facility in Bengaluru and recently launched an AirPods-focused plant in Hyderabad. Together, these moves underscore Apple’s strategic pivot to strengthen manufacturing in India and reduce global supply chain vulnerabilities.
