Mumbai Metro Line 9 is set to begin trial runs this week on a 4.97-km stretch between Dahisar and Mira Road, marking a major milestone in the project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the Thane district.
These trials follow the successful electrification of overhead traction wires on May 10, 2025, enabling dynamic testing between Dahisar and Kashigaon. The test phase will focus on evaluating train operations, signalling systems, communication infrastructure, and safety protocols—critical steps before the line opens to the public.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to inaugurate the first test run. Line 9, an extension of Metro Line 7 (Red Line), will establish a direct link between Andheri (Western Express Highway) and Bhayandar (West), easing congestion along the Western Railway corridor and improving transit in the western suburbs.
The initial operational phase includes stations at Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon. A future phase will extend the route to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium in Bhayandar (West).
A key feature of the line is Kashimira station, located just 1.4 km from Mira Road suburban railway station, offering improved last-mile connectivity for commuters.
