India's Electronics Dream Expands: TN Gets Third Manufacturing Hub

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the Centre's approval for a third electronics manufacturing cluster in Tamil Nadu, further solidifying the state's role in India's growing electronics production ecosystem. The announcement was made during a video conference at an IIT Madras event, where the Minister highlighted Tamil Nadu’s strategic importance in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global electronics manufacturing hub.

The Minister also stated that the new initiative would bring modern infrastructure and amenities to the region. The Centre is particularly focused on expanding mobile phone, laptop, and server manufacturing in the state, with several new projects already underway or in the pipeline. “Many new projects in mobile phone, laptop, and server manufacturing are now being set up in Tamil Nadu,” he said.

Earlier in March 2025, two electronics clusters worth ₹1,112 crore were announced, including a facility by Zetwerk Electronics in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. These clusters are aimed at manufacturing electronic components for consumer durables and IT hardware, catering to both domestic and international markets.
