India's Green Ammonia Flows to Japan: ACME & IHI Seal Historic 0.4 MTPA Deal

ACME Group and Japan-based IHI Corporation have formalized their collaboration through the signing of a term sheet, solidifying their commitment to supply 0.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia from Odisha to Japan. This strategic partnership is anticipated to mitigate 54 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions over the entire lifecycle of the project.

The agreement was ceremoniously executed by high-ranking officials from ACME and IHI Corporation, with the esteemed presence of Minister of Power & Renewable Energy RK Singh, Secretary MNRE Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, and Japanese Ambassador to India Hiroshi Suzuki. The green ammonia will be manufactured at ACME's ambitious 1.2 million tonnes per annum green hydrogen and ammonia project situated in Gopalpur, Odisha, representing a substantial investment of USD five billion.

The collaboration extends beyond mere supply, as both entities aspire to collaborate across the entire value chain of green ammonia, encompassing production to logistics. This collaborative effort stands as a noteworthy stride in the global pursuit of curbing greenhouse gas emissions. Notably, the Gopalpur project in Odisha, with a targeted capacity of 1.2 MTPA, will be implemented in phased development, with the initial production phase slated to commence in 2027.

ACME's commitment to green energy extends beyond this partnership, as the organization is concurrently advancing green hydrogen and ammonia projects in India, Oman, and the United States. The overarching objective is to establish a diverse portfolio, targeting 10 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia or equivalent hydrogen/derivatives by the year 2032. Additionally, ACME is actively engaged with potential customers in India, facilitating the supply of green hydrogen and ammonia to further contribute to the sustainable energy landscape.
