German semiconductor company Infineon has signed an agreement with India's CDIL Semiconductors to supply silicon wafers for power chip production. This collaboration supports India's 'Make in India' initiative and aims to strengthen local semiconductor manufacturing.
Under the deal, Infineon will provide bare semiconductor wafers, which CDIL will process for assembly and packaging into power chipsets. These chips will be used in applications such as power inverters, solar technology, automotive power solutions, and renewable energy.
Founded in 1964, Continental Device India Ltd. (CDIL) is India's first semiconductor manufacturer, specializing in discrete semiconductors and silicon carbide (SiC) devices. CDIL President Pankaj Gulati emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that it combines Infineon's advanced wafer technology with CDIL's OSAT capabilities to drive innovation and position India as a semiconductor hub.
Initially, CDIL will focus on serving domestic demand before expanding to global markets.
