JSW Utkal Steel has commenced development activities for its proposed integrated steel plant at Paradip in Odisha, with work progressing on key infrastructure and logistics facilities required to support the project.
The company is currently executing site development and utility infrastructure works, including the establishment of power and water supply systems. As part of the project’s raw material strategy, two pellet plants with a capacity of 8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) each are planned for commissioning by FY2028. To facilitate the efficient transportation of iron ore slurry, JSW Infrastructure is developing a 302-km slurry pipeline connecting mining regions to the Paradip plant site, with commissioning targeted for FY2027.
In parallel, the development of Jatadhar Port is advancing and is expected to become operational in FY2027. The port is anticipated to play a critical role in strengthening the project's logistics ecosystem by enabling efficient handling of raw materials and finished steel products through coastal and international shipping routes.
The integrated steel plant has received approval for phased implementation and will leverage its strategic coastal location to enhance supply chain efficiency and reduce transportation costs. Phase I of the project includes the installation of a 5 MTPA blast furnace, a 6 MTPA steel melt shop and a 6 MTPA hot strip mill capable of producing steel products with widths ranging from 900 mm to 2,150 mm.
The first phase involves an estimated investment of Rs 31,600 crore and is scheduled for commissioning by FY2030. Upon completion of subsequent expansion phases, the facility is planned to achieve a total production capacity of 13.2 MTPA, making it one of the major integrated steel manufacturing complexes in eastern India.
