The Railway Board has approved the construction of Kerala’s first railway station adjacent to Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery.
Initially planned as a halt station between Angamaly and Chowwara, the facility is expected to develop into a major transit hub due to its close proximity to the airport. Railway officials anticipate a significant rise in passenger traffic, as more travellers may opt for train services to avoid road congestion. Once operational, the station will feature modern amenities and a contemporary design. The project will soon move into the fund allocation and tendering stages under the supervision of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Plans are also in place to ensure seamless connectivity between the railway station and the airport, offering convenience for international passengers. Additionally, tour operators have proposed setting up local product stalls—featuring handicrafts and regional cuisine—to showcase Kerala’s culture and strengthen the state’s tourism economy.
