Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, informed the Rajya Sabha that the fishing harbour project at Kothapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh, is now scheduled for completion by the end of 2027 at an estimated cost of nearly ₹442 crore.
The project, originally approved in October 2022 with a budget of ₹364 crore, included ₹80 crore in Central assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. However, the Minister stated that the state government cancelled the contract in April 2025 after progress remained below 25 percent.
He further noted that ₹40 crore had already been released for the project. Due to delays, the revised project cost has been increased to ₹441.88 crore. The harbour is now expected to be completed by December 2027 and is anticipated to significantly strengthen the fishing sector in the state.
