Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is on track to finalize the detailed project report (DPR) for the Koyambedu-Avadi metro line extension by November. Rites Limited has been awarded an ₹80.48 lakh contract to prepare the DPR, ensuring a comprehensive plan for this ambitious project.
The 16-kilometer extension will connect Koyambedu to Avadi, passing through key areas like Padi Pudhu Nagar, Ambattur, and Thirumullaivoyal. The route will feature around 15 elevated stations, strategically placed to serve IT parks, industrial zones, and densely populated neighborhoods.
Preparatory work includes drilling over 30 boreholes for soil investigation and conducting topographical surveys along the route. This groundwork will ensure the metro line's design is robust and suited to the area's geographical conditions.
An extensive alignment study will be conducted to finalize the station locations and land requirements. This study aims to optimize accessibility and convenience for commuters while minimizing disruption to existing infrastructure and communities.
CMRL aims to complete the project by November 2024, enhancing Chennai's urban transit network and providing a much-needed boost to connectivity in the region. The metro line extension is expected to ease traffic congestion and support the city's growing transportation needs.
