Kumbh Mela Ready: Nashik Stations Get ₹1,011 Crore Upgrade

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved a ₹1,011 crore infrastructure enhancement plan for five key stations in Maharashtra’s Nashik district—Nashik Road, Devlali, Odha, Kasbe Sukene, and Kherwadi. The initiative is aimed at bolstering capacity ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela and improving long-term rail connectivity in the region.

Joined by Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Railway Minister reviewed detailed proposals submitted by the Central Railway’s General Manager and the Bhusawal Divisional Railway Manager. The plan includes station expansions, new platforms, and operational facilities to manage both passenger and freight traffic.

Key Upgrades Include:

Devlali Station: Addition of two pit lines, two sick lines, and two stabilising lines. Three new platforms will be constructed—two dedicated to terminating trains from Mumbai and Nashik, and one for through trains.

Nashik Road Station: Two new parking lines are being developed. Platform 1 will be extended to handle 24-coach trains, and Platform 4 will be upgraded for bi-directional use.

Odha Station: Will see the construction of five stabilising lines and one new platform, supporting both passenger and freight operations.

The project is designed to accommodate the expected surge in pilgrim traffic during the Kumbh Mela while enhancing infrastructure that will benefit regular rail services throughout the year.
