Ladakh’s Lifeline: The New IOCL Bulk Storage Facility

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art bulk petroleum storage facility in Ladakh to strengthen fuel security and logistics in high-altitude and forward areas. Developed with the support of the Indian Army, the facility is designed to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply under extreme weather conditions, particularly during the winter months.

IOCL Chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney underscored the importance of the project, stating that it will enhance energy security and support advanced winter stocking (AWS) operations in the region. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also commended the engineering of the facility, noting that it has been constructed to withstand Ladakh’s challenging terrain and harsh climatic conditions. Most of the storage units are located underground, offering improved safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

The new facility will cater to the fuel requirements of the Indian Army while also supporting the energy needs of the local population in one of the world’s most demanding environments. IOCL has maintained a strong presence in Ladakh since the 1970s and continues to play a key role in developing critical energy infrastructure in the region.
