Longest Railway Viaduct in India Opens in Madhya Pradesh

Indian Railways has commissioned the country’s longest railway viaduct — the Katni Grade Separator — in Madhya Pradesh, at an estimated cost of ₹1,800 crore.

Spanning a total length of 33.40 km, the project comprises a 15.85 km up-grade separator, now operational, and a 17.52 km down-grade separator currently under construction. The viaduct has been built using modern engineering techniques, state-of-the-art machinery, and high-grade materials to ensure durability and performance.

A detailed safety inspection of the newly completed section between Katangi Khurd and New Majhgawan Gate was conducted by Manoj Arora, Railway Safety Commissioner (Central Circle, Mumbai). The inspection covered key structural and operational elements, including bridge layout, girders, bearings, ballast, sleepers, glued joints, overhead equipment, level crossings, and track geometry.

The project is being overseen by Shobhna Bandopadhyay, General Manager, West Central Railway (WCR), who has been actively monitoring construction progress and quality assurance.

Once fully operational, the Katni Grade Separator will play a pivotal role in improving rail connectivity and traffic flow across central India, significantly enhancing the safety and efficiency of both freight and passenger services.
