Ludhiana's ₹1,305 Cr Water Mission Hits 20% Mark in 8 Months

The Ludhiana Surface Water Supply Scheme (LSWSS), a ₹1,305-crore flagship initiative aimed at providing clean drinking water to every household in the city, has achieved 20% physical progress within eight months of its launch in February 2025.

Jointly funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the project is being implemented by the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana with technical support from the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC). According to Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, approximately 25 km of water pipelines have been laid, with materials ready for an additional 48 km. Construction of the water treatment plant (WTP) at Bilga village near Sahnewal is also progressing rapidly.

Out of the 70 planned overhead service reservoirs (OHSRs), work has commenced at 31 sites, while testing has been completed at 47 existing reservoirs. The project also allocates ₹154 crore for maintenance and ₹84 crore for quality assurance. Continuous monitoring is being carried out to ensure adherence to safety standards, community participation, and timely completion.
