The Kerala government has approved the Phase 1 alignment of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project, marking a major milestone in transforming the state capital’s urban transport infrastructure.
To be implemented by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), the 31-km Phase 1 corridor will connect key IT hubs, transport terminals, and administrative centres, helping to ease congestion and enhance mobility across the city. The alignment will link Technopark’s three phases, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station, Secretariat, and medical college, providing seamless connectivity for commuters.
The route will comprise 27 stations between Pappanamcode and Eanchakkal, with three interchange stations at Kazhakoottam, Technopark Phase 1, and Karyavattom. In addition, KMRL has been assigned the construction of flyovers at Sreekaryam, Ulloor, and Pattom to further improve traffic flow and support integrated transport planning.
The Thiruvananthapuram Metro is poised to redefine the capital’s development model, drawing inspiration from the success of the Kochi Metro and Water Metro projects, which have advanced sustainable, efficient, and eco-friendly urban mobility in Kerala.
