Mathura's Banke Bihari Corridor: A New Chapter for Affected Families

The Uttar Pradesh government is moving forward with plans to relocate families affected by the proposed Banke Bihari corridor project in Vrindavan, Mathura. The Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) has identified four sites to build 350 flats under a group housing scheme aimed at resettling approximately 275 displaced families, primarily from the Rukmini Vihar area.

According to Mathura District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh, affected landowners will be given the option to relocate to either Rukmini Vihar or Sunrakh Bangar in Vrindavan. Both areas have been designated for the development of new residential flats by the MVDA.

The 5.5-acre corridor, planned around the historic Thakur Banke Bihari Temple, will impact sevayats (temple caretakers), shopkeepers, and local residents. Around 275 property owners—including about 200 shopkeepers—are expected to be affected. Shopkeepers are likely to be compensated with commercial space within the new corridor and financial compensation based on the value of their property and land.
