MCMIL Upgrades for a Premium Edge in Coated Steel

Manaksia Coated Metals & Industries Ltd (MCMIL), a leading manufacturer and exporter of coated steel products, has commenced a planned shutdown of its Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) to facilitate a technology upgrade and capacity expansion.

As part of the upgrade, the CGL will be converted from producing galvanised steel to aluminium–zinc coated steel. This transition will increase line speeds and raise installed capacity from 1.32 lakh tonnes per annum to 1.80 lakh tonnes per annum, representing a 36 per cent increase. Production of aluminium–zinc coated steel is expected to stabilise from January 2026.

The upgrade is aimed at enhancing productivity, operational efficiency and energy efficiency, while lowering coating costs per tonne without compromising corrosion resistance. It will also enable the company to move towards higher-value products, capitalising on rising market demand and supporting premium pricing.

Commenting on the initiative, Karan Agrawal, Whole-Time Director of MCMIL, said the upgrade aligns with the company’s strategic direction for its coated steel business. He added that adopting aluminium–zinc coating technology would allow the company to offer more durable, application-ready products while improving the efficiency and reliability of its operations.
