Metro's Blue Line: Bengaluru's New Connectivity Lifeline

Bengaluru’s much-anticipated Blue Line of Namma Metro — officially known as the ORR–Airport Line — is on track for completion by December 2027, according to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The 58.19-km seamless corridor will connect Silk Board Junction in the south to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in the north, via K.R. Pura. The project is split into two key segments:

Phase 2A: Silk Board to K.R. Pura (19.75 km)

Phase 2B: K.R. Pura to KIA (38.44 km)

As of June 30, 2025, overall project progress stands at 52.5%. A BMRCL official confirmed that construction of the two metro stations within the airport premises is progressing steadily. These are being designed by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).

The Airport City station will be at ground level

The Airport Terminal station will be semi-underground

The Blue Line will feature driverless metro trains, equipped with dedicated luggage racks and enhanced safety features tailored for air travellers.

Launched nearly a decade ago, the project carries an estimated cost of ₹14,788 crore. Once operational, it will transform urban mobility in Bengaluru, linking the city’s southern, eastern, and northern neighbourhoods directly to the airport — significantly easing traffic congestion and reducing travel times.
