MHI Opens 10 GWh ACC PLI Bidding

On January 24, 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) declared the initiation of a fresh round of bidding for production-linked incentives (PLI) focused on the manufacturing of 10 GWh advanced chemistry cells (ACC).

In this bidding cycle, potential applicants are invited to submit proposals for establishing a domestic ACC manufacturing facility, making them eligible for incentives under the PLI ACC scheme. The entire bidding process will be conducted online, employing a transparent two-stage procedure under the quality and cost-based selection (QCBS) mechanism. The pre-bid conference is scheduled to take place on February 12, 2024.

The deadline for bid submissions is set for April 22, 2024, with the anticipation of bid opening on April 23, 2024. The government, acting through MHI, remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting environmentally friendly public transport under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and tackle vehicular emissions.

Back in May 2021, the Cabinet greenlit the technology-agnostic PLI Scheme for the 'National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage,' targeting a manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh of ACC with a budget of Rs18,100 crore.

Furthermore, MHI has issued a request for proposal to shortlist and select bidders under the PLI scheme, 'National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage.’ The objective is to establish battery manufacturing units with a combined manufacturing capacity of 10 GWh, supported by a Rs.3,620 crore outlay.
