Patna's first six-lane bridge over the Ganga—the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur bridge—is on the brink of a major milestone. The section from Kacchi Dargah to Raghopur is expected to open by next month, significantly boosting regional connectivity.
Being developed by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDCL), this engineering feat is poised to redefine travel between northern and southern Bihar. It will link NH-31 and NH-322, dramatically reducing travel time and easing traffic congestion.
Once completed, the bridge will be India’s longest extra-dosed cable-stayed bridge, spanning a total of 19.76 km. This includes a 9.76 km main bridge and a 10 km approach road. It connects Kacchi Dargah in Patna to Bidupur in Vaishali district, beginning at NH-30 in Sabalpur and ending near Chak Sikandar and Ghazipur Chowk on NH-103, Samastipur.
Bihar Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin shared updates on the progress: “The overbridge from Patna to Raghopur is nearly done. Construction from Raghopur to Bidupur is progressing rapidly. We’ll soon review the status with officials and finalize the inauguration date for the Kacchi Dargah-Raghopur section.”
Although originally targeted for completion in July, the project encountered setbacks due to last year’s flooding. Now, full completion is expected by year-end, with work continuing at a fast pace.
