Mission 9 MTPA: NRL Successfully Commissions COIF

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) achieved a significant milestone on 31 December 2025 with the successful commissioning of its Crude Oil Integration Facility (COIF), following approval from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO).

The commissioning of the COIF enabled the completion of the Oil-In activity at the CDU–VDU unit, marking the first major operational step toward full commissioning of the refinery’s core processing units. This development also paves the way for the phased commissioning of other units under the Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP).

The NREP, NRL’s flagship expansion initiative, will increase the refinery’s capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 9 MTPA at its Golaghat facility in Assam, positioning it as a vital energy infrastructure project for Northeast India. The COIF inauguration and Oil-In operation were carried out by Shri Girish Kumar Borah, Director (Technical), NRL, in the presence of company officials and project partners.

This achievement highlights NRL’s strong project execution capabilities and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening India’s energy security, promoting regional development, and advancing self-reliance in the petroleum sector.
